What drives our organisation
Our Mission
We will provide shelter and support to people who are homeless or in housing crisis ... those most at risk in our community.
Our Vision
We will relentlessly pursue, through our values based culture, collaborations and community;the achievement of excellence in all that we do.
Our Values
Haven believes that a list of common values, grounded in clear unambiguous statements helps to identify and inform us of what is important in our actions.
Being clear on our values assists in helping us to constantly ground our actions in what is fair, ethical and right. Haven aims to foster a culture of values embedded in all of our actions from Board, management and staff that can influence every aspect of our organisation.
Who benefits from our statement of values?
Our valued clients, our important stakeholders, our Board, co-workers and management all benefit from our constant reviewing of practice, policy, public and organisational actions that are based on and congruent with our values.
What does an explicit statement of values achieve?
Unambiguous values inform and lead the way we treat our clients, stakeholders and co-workers. As Directors, managers and staff of Haven we aim to achieve the following in our actions:
Dignity and respect for people
We value the right of people to make choices. We will treat people with dignity and respect no matter their situation in life or way in which they choose to live. We accept that not all choices or indeed cultures or individual backgrounds are congruent with ours, we therefore value diversity as well.
Honesty
We will treat people with and go about our actions in an honest manner. Honesty is not sheltering ourselves or others from the implications or consequences of actions, but even in such matters we uphold the other values of this organisation. We act in an open, accountable, transparent and consistent manner.
Ethics
We will act in ethical ways, we will support appropriate charters and codes of conduct and we accept that ethical social constructs in our community are as important in communities as laws. We will not enter into unethical actions.
Trust
We act in ways that develop and maintain the trust of our clients, stakeholders, Board, staff and management. We aim to be trusted with matters of privacy, equity, an absence of discrimination and harassment.
Pragmatism
We value resolving the presenting problem, and we work to agree on the underlying causes and seek structural change to that. We accept that when the facts change so to does our response. We must always seek to understand the facts as fully as is possible in the timeframe and within the resources we have. We understand that no budget is ever big enough and we work within resource constraints.
Learning and thinking
We act in ways that promote learning, that allow knowledge transference, with our clients, our stakeholders, our Board, management and staff. We aim to remain informed; we use our learning to add to our purposefulness. We will adopt common platforms for processing information and thought into knowledge and action.
Collaboration
We understand that partnerships are based on mutuality, that collaboration is a two way process, we will seek out such collaborators and partners to assist us in our actions.
Responsibility
We strive to act responsibly in our actions. We accept the binding duty to uphold all applicable laws and statutes, we further accept and embrace the responsibility to do so enthusiastically and to stand up for what our values are.
Safety
Our Clients, have a right to a safe and injury free home, we will strive to provide that. Our staff, management and Board have a right to a safe workplace and work practices, a right to ensure that we all, together, pursue safe practices. We will actively encourage this environment; we will not tolerate unsafe practices or violent behaviours.
Making a Difference
We aim always to make a positive difference in all of our actions.
